IGLHRC – The International Gay and Lesbian Human Rights Commission (IGLHRC) is a leading international organization dedicated to human rights advocacy on behalf of people who experience discrimination or abuse on the basis of their actual or perceived sexual orientation, gender identity or expression.

GALCK – Gay and Lesbian Coalition of Kenya

GALZ – The Gays and Lesbians of Zimbabwe (GALZ) is a universitas voluntary association. It was founded in 1990 for purposes of serving the needs and interests of LGBTI people in Zimbabwe and pushing for social tolerance of sexual minorities and the repeal of homophobic legislation.

SMUG -Sexual Minorities Uganda  [SM-UG] is a non-profit, non-governmental organisation that works towards achieving full legal and social equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender people in Uganda.It is the umbrella organization of all homosexual organizations in Uganda.

FEW – Amazing group of women who initially started an imported conversation about organizing black lesbian women were concerned that within the broader LGBTI and women’s human rights issues, black lesbian women were more vulnerable because of intersecting identities, contexts and realities. Now they live this conversation. South African based.

GALA – Gay and Lesbian Memory in Action – “Our archives and research facility was set up to serve the needs of rigorous academic research on LGBTIQ issues while maintaining a dual role as a repository of community histories and cultural artefacts. Today, we are the custodian of a large number of individual and organisational archival collections that document the history, culture and contemporary experiences of LGBTIQ people in Africa. These collections encompass organisational and individual records and narratives, community histories, and cultural artefacts, and they form the foundation of a comprehensive social history of LGBTIQ people on the continent.”

LeGaBiBo (Lesbians, Gays and Bisexuals of Botswana) – The first LGBTI organization in Botswana. It was founded by Ditshwanelo. 

Iranti-Org – A queer human rights visual media organization based in Johannesburg, South Africa. Iranti-Org works within a human rights framework as its foundational platform for raising issues on Gender, Identities and Sexuality.

Freedom Sudan – Freedom Sudan is the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) organization in Sudan. Our organization has been formed in December 2006. Our status is illegal. Homosexual behavior is illegal in Sudan and homosexuals facing the death penalty. That’s why our organization was formed in secret and all our activities are carried out secretly, hoping that one day we will get accepted in our communities and even in our families, and hope that we can be FREE to be the way we are. Freedom Sudan is an organization run by volunteers only.

OutRight Namibia – Out Rights Namibia (ORN) is Namibian LGBTI, MSM and WSW human rights based organisation that was formed in March 2010 by self identified LGBTI, MSM and WSW activists and officially registered in November 2010 as a Trust. ORN advocates as the voice for Lesbian Women/ Gay men/ Bisexuals, Transgender and Intersex people in Namibia to further address, redress and arrest the amount of homophobia rhetoric in the country.

Queer African Youth Network – The Queer African Youth Networking Center works to establish a wide network of support to promote the safety and well-being of gays, lesbians, bisexual, transgender and questioning West African youth.

Queer Women of Color Media Wire – A media publishing and advocacy organization that amplifies the voices of Lesbian, Bisexual, Queer, Transgender women and gender non-conforming people of color, diaspora, and other racial and ethnic minorities around the world.

African Gender Institute – The African Gender Institute at the University of Cape Town is a teaching, learning and research institute which focuses on issues of gender and development on the African continent.

School of Women’s and Gender Studies, Makerere University, Uganda – The School of Women and Gender Studies is a multidisciplinary academic unit. It is at the forefront of academic initiatives to address gender and development issues from an African perspective. The School’s goal is to contribute to development in Uganda through ensuring that gender is an integral part of the development process.

The Lesbian and Gay Equality Project – A non-profit organisation that works for full legal and social equality for lesbian, transgender, gay,  bisexual and inter-sexed people (LGBTI) people in South Africa. The LGEP was formerly known as the National Coalition for Gay and Lesbian Equality.

Free Gender – A black lesbian organisation based in Khayelitsha township of Cape Town. As human rights defenders, we are also gender friendly towards transgender and intersex persons in our community. The organisation was founded in 2008 and have since participated in various protests/ political meetings/ guest talks at academic and public forums. We also supported different stakeholders whose common objectives are relevant to our mandate.

Triangle Project – Educating, lobbying and advocating against harmful stereotypes, attitudes and behaviours towards Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Intersex (LGBTI) people (South African based organization)

Gay and Lesbian Network – Offers many services to the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Intersex (LGBTI) community in KZN, South Africa.If you need assistance, call their helpline or come and visit their office in Central Pietermaritzburg.

Durban Lesbian & Gay Community & Health Centre – The Durban Lesbian & Gay Community & Health Centre (a project of the KZN Coalition for Gay & Lesbian Equality) offers a safe and secure space for the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex communities of Durban and KwaZulu-Natal.

Gender DynamiX – Gender DynamiX is the first African based organisation solely focusing on the transgender community.

Transitioning Africa – SIPD is a grassroots not-for-profit support initiative in Uganda, which through community outreach and engagement, provides reliable and objective information on the plight of persons with atypical sex development (also preferably known as intersex conditions) and similar anatomical variances in Uganda. SIPD particularly addresses the human rights, sexual and reproductive health, and support of intersex children and people. We also focus on support for parents of intersex children.

Intersex South Africa – An organisation established to spread knowledge about intersex, to provide the space for the development of an intersexed voice in Southern Africa, and to combat discrimination on grounds of intersex.

Women’s International Cross-Cultural Exchange – Since 1996, Isis-WICCE has documented women’s experiences of armed conflict as a tool for advocacy, social justice and women’s empowerment, to ensure respect for human rights and achievement of sustainable peace.
